(4b) Scott Fogler – Original Thinker, Leader, Mentor and Dear Friend

As the NSF program director of the chemical reaction engineering program, I was acutely aware of Scott’s stature in the community. His textbook is used worldwide and his name recognition is phenomenal. But what makes him a truly towering figure is that there are very few people who have had as great an impact on AIChE and the chemical engineering professions in the past two decades as Scott has. An original thinker, he came up with the Chem E Car competition and the webinar program, among others, and made them happen. He is also unique because of his generosity, his kindness and his focus on helping others, in every way possible. He reaches out and works with people like he did with me and helped me get acclimated to my leadership role in AIChE. The profession, AIChE and his colleagues will always remember him.
