The inclusion of collaborative research and design opportunities within undergraduate and graduate curricula leads to enhanced learning in a unique environment. Students in multi-tiered teams exercise hands-on, open-ended problem solving to investigate contemporary bioengineering problems with external clinical and industrial partners. Common research and design elements can provide a needed curricular and assessment framework while at the same time creating experiences unique to each team. Students can substantially benefit by navigating external partner relationships and obtaining major deliverables.
