(78a) The Use of Digital Technologies in Materials and Process Design

The topic of Digitization in the Chemical and Materials Industry will be discussed. Today scientists and engineers are facing more complex multidisciplinary problems. The proliferation of the Internet of Things that is, inexpensive instrumentation connected via high-bandwidth and low-latency, have given engineers working in manufacturing access to tremendous amount of data. A similar situation is happening to engineers working in research and development conducting data-intensive experiments and simulations. Data Science is one of the digital technologies in the 3M Periodic Table of Technology Platforms. This talk will include examples on how Data Science in combination with materials and processing technologies is being used successfully.
