(271e) Structural Color from Synthetic Polymers

Authors

Ryan, M. - Presenter, Cypris Materials, Inc
Cypris Materials is developing a structural color platform of paintable, nano-structured coatings from synthetic polymers. As an alternative to traditional pigments and dyes, structural color has long captivated the scientific community and observers of the natural world due to its unique optical properties. Until recently, the methods to produce reflective color without chromophores have relied on specialized engineering techniques, limiting the applicable markets and impact of the technology. Cypris’ materials are deposited using common techniques such as spray and brushing, presenting new possibilities for brands to differentiate their products across industries from automotive to inkjet printing. The fundamental innovations in polymer chemistry and formulation which enable this technology platform will be discussed with early market case studies.
