A new AIChE.org has launched, offering our members and customers a better user experience and a more modern design.
The high-level goals of the site redesign are as follows:
- Align with AIChE’s strategic plan — communities, education, and diversity & inclusion
- Promote AIChE and its communities more clearly, up front. Succinctly state communities' primary purpose and who they are for
- Improve wayfinding and navigation (AIChE, communities, global menus), getting site visitors to the content they seek and the products they want to buy
- Improve visual hierarchy with simpler, less cluttered page layouts that don’t require users to focus on too many pieces of content at once; mitigate user complaints of clutter
- Design sites to be fully responsive (mobile-friendly) for all screen sizes
- Create a modern design system, collaborating with our design department to expand on existing branding
- Pay special attention to ease of finding conferences and events, consistencies of calls-to-action (register, become a member, submit an abstract), summarizing member benefits front-and-center on the membership pages
How did we determine and refine these goals?
We conducted a user-experience audit and testing with a leading UX design team (Lullabot) to interview members, customers, and key stakeholders on staff. This resulted in defining the aforementioned goals and kicking off a nine-month design process working with staff and conducting further user testing to refine the design based on feedback.
What have members said?
The user testing completed thus far has been successful; comments about the site include:
- “Professional… More modern”
- “More specific and direct language”
- “Your new wireframe had all my interests on the homepage, not just in the tabs at the top”
- ”A fresh look…less cluttered than the old site.”
What sites will be affected?
This redesign will apply to AIChE, CCPS, DIPPR, and all Technical Entity sites. It will not apply to Academy, ChEnected, Giving, or Engage. Division, forum, committee, and other entity sites will be included in the redesign in early 2020.
