Be a ChemE | AIChE

Introducing Bee A ChemE

AIChE, along with partners from industry, academia and other organizations, is embarking on a public campaign to inspire, attract and develop the next generation of STEM talent.

The Challenge

In order to continue innovating and solving society’s most pressing challenges, the chemical and related industries face an urgent need to raise awareness about and change perceptions of chemical engineering and STEM disciplines.

Today, not enough young people are pursuing chemical engineering and other STEM professions. Research from Deloitte and others illustrate the importance of addressing this STEM skills gap. Part of the problem is that there is little to no awareness of the profession and its many rewarding and impactful careers. Also, negative perceptions exist about it being old-fashioned and harming the environment.

The Solution

AIChE and its partners are launching a comprehensive campaign to rebrand the perception of the industry. We're starting early, engaging middle-school students, along with their parents, educators, and advisors. The Bee A ChemE Campaign will introduce and demonstrate to kids that careers in chemical engineering are fun, rewarding and will enable them to positively impact the world.

The Campaign

  • A future Bee A ChemE website will help bring STEM jobs to life with information and modules for STEM teachers to use in the classroom.
  • By building a broad network, we aim to activate the K-12 Community and beyond by exposing students to STEM professions, specifically chemical engineering.
  • A national media campaign will be geared toward middle-school students and their influencers.
  • The campaign will include an engaging and memorable mascot and rallying cry that students can embrace and own for themselves.

Help Wanted

While our campaign starts with middle-school students, we understand that to change public perceptions and truly make a difference for our industry, we’ll also need to engage both younger and older K-12 students — as well as bring together a broad coalition of committed stakeholders.

That's why AIChE is looking to partner with organizations and individuals from the chemical industries, academia and other organizations to ensure the campaign’s success.
