CEP: Profile - David Saiia: Transforming Bottles into Businesses

David Saiia, co-founder of the nonprofit Reuse Everything Institute, Inc. (REII), has always been drawn to the field of sustainable development. His theory on corporate ecology, which seeks to explore the dynamic relationship between businesses and natural resources, reinforces the importance of sustainable capitalism (i.e., creating institutions that are based on both sound ecological and business principles) in preserving local ecosystems. His work in developing countries culminated in his invention of a lathe-type machine that cuts waste plastic bottles into ribbons, which can then be converted into a variety of building materials.
