The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) is thrilled to welcome the inaugural class of FOSSI scholarship recipients, chosen from more than 1,700 applicants. The 2021 FOSSI scholars represent 28 states across the nation and plan to major in 17 unique STEM majors at 26 at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
Following a virtual welcome celebration in July, FOSSI scholars will begin their journey and participate in AIChE’s Fundamentals of Success program, offering them opportunities to discover STEM-focused careers via live workshops, and broaden their networks through a mix of virtual and live events with their FOSSI cohort and the sponsoring companies.
“This scholarship will make an extraordinary difference in my education," shared Nia Richardson, 2021 FOSSI Scholar and Environmental Science major at Howard University.
As we welcome our inaugural class of scholars, we are also preparing to open the application process for the 2022 class. Having exceeded the program’s ambitious initial goal to fund 150 scholarships in 2021, FOSSI aims to support 1000 students in future years. Applications for 2022 FOSSI scholarships will open October 1. We encourage all to share this transformative opportunity with family, friends, teachers, counselors, community leaders and potential future FOSSI scholars!
FOSSI is a core initiative of the AIChE Doing a World of Good campaign and its All for Good: Engineering for Inclusion priority, which is driving industry-wide improvement in equity, diversity and inclusion.
