AIChE Foundation Awards Grants to Nine Projects

The AIChE Foundation is pleased to announce the following initiatives have been awarded grants for the 2019 first cycle of funding. Bi-annually, the AIChE Foundation invites Operating Councils and Board Committees to submit funding proposals for innovative projects that further the Foundation’s Doing a World of Good campaign priorities and enable the profession of chemical engineering to have a greater impact in the world. We would like to thank our leadership supporters for their generosity to the Annual Fund which enables the AIChE Foundation Board of Trustees to award funding to these important projects.

2019 AIChE Global Student Undergraduate Video Competition

The AIChE Foundation is pleased to continue its support of the AIChE Global Undergraduate Student Video Competition. This engaging program gives student chapter teams the platform to create a 2-5 minute video that explains and inspires high school students and communities to learn more about chemical engineers and what they do. Each video will compete to win a judges choice award or a public choice award. The winners of each year’s competition are announced at the Annual Student Conference. The global reach of the competition allows the exchange of relevant knowledge between diverse communities, advances STEM education in a creative way, and fosters a dialogue on adaptation of process technology in diverse countries. AIChE's Beer Brewing Competition (ABBC)

The Young Professionals Committee (YPC) will be  hosting the AIChE Beer Brewing Competition (ABBC) at the 2019 Annual Meeting in Orlando. The competition will stimulate the collaboration of members of all ages and from varying industries. In addition, the competition enables Young Professionals to become involved in their local section and gives them the opportunity to collaborate at the local level through creativity and innovation. The ABBC has been a huge success within the Institute and has engaged many AIChE members in chemical engineering principles and continued the lifecycle of leadership, knowledge, volunteerism, and sustainability for local sections. 2020 AIChE 35 Under 35 Awards

AIChE’s 35 Under 35 awards will recognize the outstanding early career accomplishments of 35 AIChE young professional members within the age of 35. Following the success of the inaugural offering of these awards the second award ceremony and reception will be held at the 2020 AIChE Annual Meeting in San Francisco. The Young Professionals Committee hopes that this award will enhance the pipeline of engineers who remain involved in AIChE well beyond their early careers. Encouraging Global Engagement - 2019 Student Regional

Volunteers of the Global Societal Initiatives Committee (GSIC) will raise awareness and engage chemical engineers with a global interest on humanitarian projects, the need for community-level infrastructure in third world countries, an understanding of cultures worldwide, challenges that may arise and how they can get involved. The seminars will include an array of panel presenters including AIChE professionals and chemical engineers. For more information, click here.  

2019 AIChE International Regional Student Conferences

AIChE’s Career Education Operating Council (CEOC) will expand the student regional conference internationally to two new countries this year, Brazil and Spain. The 2019 Brazil Regional Student Conference is scheduled for late July 2019 at Centro Universitário SENAI CIMATEC in Salvador, Brazil. The 2019 Spain Regional Student Conference is scheduled for late July 2019 at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. We applaud CEOC on developing the international regional student conferences as it expand AIChE’s reach and impact globally.  This also gives students the opportunity to meet and network with industry professions which correlates with the Doing a World of Good campaign. International Student Chapter Leadership Development Travel Grant Program

AIChE’s international undergraduate student chapters are one of the cornerstone initiatives in the Institute’s plan to increase its global presence, recruit international members and serve the profession as it is practiced throughout the world. The International Student Chapter Leadership Development Travel Grant is awarded on the basis of leadership involvement in student chapter activities, academic achievement, and financial need. The AIChE Foundation is delighted to have supported this important program for four consecutive years. Since its establishment in 2014, the grant has been utilized by 36 students from 25 student chapters in 17 different countries. We are pleased to share that 2018 was the first year where all 8 selected grant recipients were able to attain visas and book their travel to the United States. For more information, click here.   

Promoting Outreach and Inclusion for ChEs with Disabilities by Creating Connected Communities of Students and Professionals

The Chemical Engineers with Disabilities Taskforce will host panel sessions and receptions in efforts to build awareness of chemical engineering students with disabilities. The need to build community, provide them with support and expand opportunities beyond graduation. The events will be held at the 2019 AIChE Spring and Annual Meetings, at the 2019 AIChE Annual Student Conference, and at one of the AIChE Student Regional Conferences.

Next-Gen Manufacturing Topical Conference at the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting

The Next-Gen Manufacturing topical conference will bring expert-level industrial speakers and allow a group of young investigators who otherwise would not attend to participate via a poster session at the 2019 Annual Meeting in Orlando. The topics covered include big data, computation and artificial intelligence, virtual reality, IIoT, additive manufacturing, process intensification and cybersecurity. Food Innovation and Engineering Topical Conference at the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting

The Food Innovation and Engineering topical conference aims to develop a brand-new platform at the 2019 Annual Meeting in Oralndo which will connect leaders in food technology, science and industry to discuss food issues and challenges as they relate to ethics, sustainability, quality and safety.For more information, contact programming@aiche.org.
