John C. Chen Endowment for Young Professional Leadership
Family and friends of the late John C. Chen, the Carl R. Anderson Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering at Lehigh University and AIChE’s President in 2006, have established an endowment fund in his memory to support the leadership development of young professional chemical engineers.
Throughout his career as an educator and his longtime professional service to AIChE, John was a recognized for his inspirational leadership and his steadfast commitment to the next generation of chemical engineers. To celebrate John’s passion for leadership and his lasting impact on the chemical engineering profession, the endowment will provide scholarship funds to support, in perpetuity, the leadership development training of two selected young professional members of AIChE annually.
The selected young professionals will participate in a face-to-face PEAK Leadership Training Program at the AIChE Annual Meeting. Funding will be made available for travel to the Annual Meeting and a full meeting registration. Additional funds will be made available for tailored online training opportunities throughout the year.

Dr. John Chen
Dr. Chen’s professional experience includes periods in the process industry (Lummus Corp.), a national laboratory (Brookhaven), and academia (Lehigh University). At Lehigh, he has served as Professor in Chemical Engineering, Chair of Chemical Engineering Department, and Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His research on multiphase transport phenomena has been recognized by over a dozen national and international awards, including the D.Q Kern Award, the Heat Transfer Division Award, the Thomas Baron Award and the Max Jakob Award from the AIChE.Read more
