Matthew Cooper

Matthew E. Cooper is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NC State. After receiving a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Ohio University in 2008, he served as a researcher at RTI International before joining the NC State faculty in 2011. Dr. Cooper has received a number of awards in his career for teaching and research, including the ASEE Raymond W. Fahien Award, ASEE William H. Corcoran Award, and Outstanding Teaching Awards from NCSU and the ASEE Southeastern Section. He has served the profession in various volunteer roles with almost 10 years of service as an ABET Program Evaluator, a term as Chair of the ASEE Chemical Engineering Division, and as a member of the Publication Board for the journal Chemical Engineering Education. Dr. Cooper’s current research interests include effective teaching, process safety simulation tools, and best practices for online education. He also hosts the In The (Fume) Hood chemical engineering education podcast.
