Jody E. Olsen, P.E., is the Principal Engineer and Manager at JE Olsen Consulting, LLC (Email: jodyo@jeolsenconsulting.com). She has been a process safety consultant since 2016. Her skills and background are in the implementation of process safety management (PSM) elements including process hazard analysis (PHA), management of change (MoC), pre-startup safety review (PSSR), root cause failure analysis, mechanical integrity, and other elements. Prior to this role, she spent nearly three decades working in upstream oil and gas production for Mobil Oil, Aera Energy, and BP. During this time, she worked in roles involving the application of PSM practices, process safety engineering, reliability engineering, project implementation, and general plant and operations support. For over 27 years, Olsen worked in field-based engineering roles. With this background, her focus is geared toward practical field applications of process safety and improving the efficiency of work processes. She has a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. She is a registered professional mechanical engineer in California and Alaska. She has been published in Process Safety Progress, Chemical Processing, and previously in Chemical Engineering Progress.
