Measuring Powder in Very Small Quantities

Batch-to-batch color consistency (whiteness, for some) is an important indicator of quality for many powders. The whiteness of powder may be an indication of its freshness or purity. Frequently only a small amount of powder may be available for measurement.

Environmentally friendly lead-free alternatives for Lindlar catalysts

BASF introduces the lead-free Pd-based catalysts NanoSelect™ LF 100 and LF 200. In contrast to the classical Lindlar catalyzed hydrogenation processes, these new heterogeneous catalysts provide a green, lead-free alternative. In addition, the reduced precious metal content of the catalysts results in significant process cost savings. Comparison of the performance of with Lindlar catalyst in selective hydrogenation reactions reveals similar activity and selectivity. More over, the observed activity for the NanoSelect catalysts is similar to the activity observed for Lindlar catalyst but obtained with a ten-fold lower metal content. Consequently, the overall process cost can be reduced dramatically due to the lower amount of precious metal in the reactor. Find out more today at www.nanoselect.catalysts.basf.com.
