Wendy C. Young

Wendy Young is AIChE’s Senior Director of the Institute for Learning & Innovation (ILI). In this role, she leads the business units responsible for Education/Workforce Development and Membership/Career Services. By promoting career discovery, skills development, practice plus (ex. internships) and certifications, the ILI is positioned to provide value to chemical engineers throughout all stages of their careers – from the classroom to the boardroom.

Wendy is joining AIChE’s team after dedicating time to the Institute as a volunteer in a wide variety of roles throughout her career. She has supported local sections (founded YP Group of South Texas Section), grown membership (chaired Membership Committee), and donated to the Foundation (Silver level). She’s privileged to have worked with colleagues across industry, academia, and government through her past service as Chair of the Young Professionals Advisory Board (now YPC), on the Board of Directors (2007-2009), and Chair of CTOC (2017). Wendy advanced AIChE’s leadership in addressing global challenges as a founding Co-Chair of AIChE’s Water Initiative (now ISWS). She was the Co-MPC for the 2015 AIChE Spring Meeting and was elected to Fellow in 2016. Most recently, she returned to the Board of Directors as the AIChE Treasurer.

Her previous job experience includes working with technology developers and users in a broad range of industry areas: chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, refining, and process simulation. She began her career in a process engineering role for companies including BASF and Solutia. She then transitioned to technical service/sales of process, water, & wastewater treatment technologies with both Baker Petrolite and GE Water. Before joining AIChE, she spent over 10 years with Chemstations where she guided sales & marketing efforts of process simulation software solutions through the CHEMCAD product suite. Those responsibilities gave her the opportunity to build lasting relationships across diverse industries, universities, and government entities.

Wendy obtained her B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University and her MBA from Rice University. She is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
