Dr. Cristina Thomas, Dr. Lucas Landherr and Ms. Madeline Mueller: Doing a World of Good
In this Doing a World of Good Raj and Kamla Gupta Podcast episode, host Bob Knorpp speaks with Dr. Lucas Landherr, an Associate Teaching Professor of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University and the current chair of the K-12 Committee; Ms. Madeline Mueller, a Chemical Engineer at Koch-Glitsch and former chair of the K-12 committee; and Dr. Cristina Thomas, Global R&D Services Leader at 3M and keynote speaker at the K-12 STEM Outreach Competition in Orlando.
Encouraging student interest in chemical engineering is a key priority of the Doing a World of Good campaign and AIChE as a whole. This is why the AIChE K-12 Committee was created and has over 3,000 members. The committee launched the K-12 STEM Competition, a program that challenges students currently studying in the STEM disciplines and exposes younger students to the exciting opportunities in the profession.
Lucas, Madeline and Cristina discuss how the K-12 Committee came to life, forming the inaugural competition that took place at the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting and the intention behind the keynote address. In addition, the current and future endeavors of the committee, as well as how educators and their students can get involved in this year's competition.
