AIChE Foundation Awards Grants to Eight Innovative Projects

The AIChE Foundation is pleased to announce the following eight innovative projects have been awarded grants for the second funding cycle of 2019. Bi-annually, the AIChE Foundation invites Operating Councils and Board Committees to submit funding proposals for transformative projects that advance the Foundation’s Doing a World of Good campaign priorities and benefit humanity through the safe and responsible practice of chemical engineering.  

We would like to thank our generous individual donors and industry partners for your continued annual support which enables the AIChE Foundation Board of Trustees to award funding to these exciting projects.

Entrepreneurship in Chemical Engineering Programming- 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting

The Chemical Engineering Technology Operating Council (CTOC) in partnership with AIChE's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneuring Excellence (CIEE) have developed a new topical conference highlighting the various opportunities available to chemical engineers in the world of entrepreneurship and innovation. AIChE Chemical Engineering for Good Challenge

The Global Societal Initiative Committee (GSIC) will host the annual AIChE Chemical Engineering for Good (ACE4G) competition, a global humanitarian program and competition that encourages students to improve the lives of those in developing countries through the practice of chemical engineering. In 2018, 20 teams from around the world competed, including 13 international student chapters from Brazil, Egypt, Malaysia, Palestine, Pakistan, Mexico, Colombia, Singapore, Nigeria, and Bangladesh. AIChE LGBTQ+ & Allies Programming and Reception- 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting 

The Societal Impact Operating Council (SIOC) and the LGBTQ+ & Allies taskforce will host a workshop and reception to welcome, engage and retain LGBTQ+ talent in the engineering profession at the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. The programming will include talks by a National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP) board representative. The workshop aims to educate professionals, students and companies on how to be an ally, why it is important and how to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. AIChE Exhibit at USA Science & Engineering Festival 2020

The USA Science & Engineering Festival (USASEF) in Washington, DC is a biannual three day-long STEM-based exposition that engages over 300,000 students and adults to the presence of science and engineering around the world. AIChE attends the festival annually as an exhibitor, has the opportunity to interact with a large number of students, and encourages them to consider a future career in chemical engineering. At the 2018 USASEF, the AIChE booth had over 2,000 visitors making the booth one of the most impactful methods of outreach for the Institute. Engaging and Building Pipeline for the Next Generation of Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) Leaders

AIChE’s Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) in collaboration with the Societal Impact Operating Council (SIOC) will award travel grants to twelve deserving students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to attend the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. They will have the opportunity to present their research posters during the MAC award ceremony and network with accomplished engineers, committee members and young professionals at the MAC reception. National Diversity Equity Workshop for Chemical Engineering (NDEW-ChE) Academic Leaders

The Societal Impact Operating Council (SIOC), Career and Education Operating Council (CEOC), Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee of the AIChE Fellows Council, in conjunction with the Department Chairs Forum, will host a two-day workshop  in 2020 for chemical engineering academic leaders to learn how they can come together, with AIChE’s leadership, to develop practical steps to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in their respective departments. AIChE’s Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) and the Societal Impact Operating Council (SIOC) are piloting an exciting initiative to advance inclusion by bringing together community college students, local AIChE student chapters, the AIChE South Texas local section and industry professionals during the 2020 AIChE Spring Meeting and 16th Global Congress on Process Safety. SECURE Manufacturing Institute Securing Enterprises via Cybersecurity Understanding, Resiliency and Education

AIChE is delighted to partner with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) on a proposal to the Department of Energy to establish the Securing Enterprises via Cybersecurity Understanding, Resiliency, and Education (SECURE) Manufacturing Institute. The objective of this groundbreaking new institute is to strengthen U.S. competitiveness by pursuing targeted research and development to ensure the security of new technologies designed to substantively increase energy efficiency in manufacturing.
