Advancing Accessibility and Careers: Four New Projects Making a Difference

The second cycle of the 2024 Doing A World of Good Grant Program saw the approval of four dynamic projects that will drive forward AIChE’s commitment to advancing learning, accessibility, and career development in the chemical engineering community. Supported by the Doing a World of Good Fund, these projects will make a meaningful impact across the profession.

1. AIChE Academy: ADA Compliance for all e-Learning Courses How do we make education truly inclusive? By ensuring every AIChE e-learning course meets ADA compliance standards, this initiative opens the door for individuals with disabilities to fully engage in AIChE’s robust learning programs, fostering a more accessible and equitable future for chemical engineers.

2. AIChE Student Ambassador Program Imagine a network of students across the country actively shaping the future of chemical engineering. The AIChE Student Ambassador Program empowers these young leaders to represent AIChE on their campuses, inspiring peer involvement and building a stronger connection between students and the profession.

3. DORIC e-Learning Micromodule In today’s fast-paced world, learning needs to be flexible and efficient. The DORIC e-Learning Micromodule project will deliver bite-sized, impactful training modules, providing professionals with accessible, on-demand knowledge on the latest industry advancements.

4. On-Demand Career Discovery Program Ever wondered how to navigate the vast career options within chemical engineering? The On-Demand Career Discovery Program equips students and early-career professionals with the resources to explore various paths in the field, offering personalized insights that help shape their future.

We greatly appreciate the dedication of the Doing a World of Good Grants Committee. Co-chaired by Zenaida Otero-Gephardt and Gayle Gibson and including members Jennifer Sinclair Curtis, Pablo Debenedetti and Eric Reiner, these Trustees annually review a multitude of proposals designed to support and advance AIChE’s core pillars in alignment with the campaign’s transformative priorities.

Expedito Segovia, project lead for the DORIC e-Learning Micromodule, expressed his excitement by saying, ‘I am thrilled to hear about the AIChE Foundation’s approval of our proposal for the DORIC e-Learning Micromodule. We deeply appreciate the Foundation Board of Trustees’ support and your personal endorsement of our project.’ Expedito also praised the collaboration with Eric Reiner, his liaison for the project, noting the valuable guidance received from the Doing a World of Good Grants Committee.
