With the availability of more process alarm data has come the need to manage that data. Alarm management systems keep track of key process indicators (KPIs), such as the alarm rate over time and peak alarm rates, compiles KPI alarm data in reports and visualization charts, and helps to identify needs for improvement.

Leveraging cloud computing for alarm management systems offers several benefits such as easy access to data and analytics software from anywhere. Although some may be concerned with the security of a cloud-based system, common methods and tools are available to mitigate security risks.
