Carol joined Deakin University in 2015 to head Civil Engineering, bringing over 20 years of experience in engineering education and research in sustainable infrastructure and the built environment. She has supervised over 20 industry based research projects, personally attracting over $2m in industry funding and worked with industry, local/central government and researchers from several disciplines to establish the Sustainable Built Futures Centre at Auckland University. Chair of The Sustainability Society for 14 years and a member of the Governing Board of the Institution of Professional Engineers NZ for two years, she was a leader in the NZ and the international community in sustainability engineering research, winning the inaugural IPENZ Auckland Branch Luminary Award in 2014 for her services to professional engineering. Her current research is focused on developing a systems based approach to developing and managing infrastructure to achieve sustainability.
