U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) Refers to Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) Monograph on Natural Hazards

The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) recently released a bulletin urging chemical companies to prepare for an increasing number of hurricanes and extreme wind events. In the bulletin the CSB shared several references for further information, including a Process Safety Monograph from the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS).

The Assessment of and Planning for Natural Hazards monograph is an updated edition of a previous CCPS pamphlet, Recovery from Natural Disasters, and aims to improve understanding of the impact of natural hazards. It provides several checklists for preparing for meteorological hazards such as hurricanes in the US and many other events across the globe. The publication covers various aspects of natural hazards preparedness, including human and equipment preparedness, and addresses recovery in the aftermath.

Process Safety Monographs are individual detailed studies of a single topic that often include analysis of recent events and frequently refer readers to other useful reference works, including additional CCPS publications, external sources, and other valuable resources, and also provide specific checklists for proposed or recommended actions.
