Scott received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University in 1980. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas (1985) and Oklahoma (1987). He began his career as a process engineer at Phillips Petroleum Company’s Borger Refinery in 1980 and retired as Fellow from ConocoPhillips Company after over 34 years in 2015. Over his career, Scott was inventor and co-inventor of 14 US patents. In March of 1997, he received the inaugural Master of Process Engineering certification from Phillips. Scott has always utilized his process engineering perspective in all of his diverse assignments from the company.

Scott has been very active within AIChE since the mid-1980’s. He served in many volunteer leadership positions, culminating with two terms on the Board of Directors (Director 2003-2005 and Secretary 2006-2009). He was elected AIChE Fellow in 2006.
