Marvin O. Schlanger, Chairman and former Chief Executive Officer of CEVA Group PLC and former Chairman of the Supervisory Board at LyondellBasell Industries, N.V., will receive the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Government and Industry Leaders (AGILE) Award — an award given by the AIChE board of directors to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the chemical engineering profession and whose contributions and initiatives have made a significant impact within the chemical engineering industry. Mr. Schlanger will also deliver the welcoming Keynote Address at AIChE’s 2015 Spring Meeting and Global Congress on Process Safety in Austin, Texas, on Monday, April 27.

The meeting, at the Hilton Austin and Austin Convention Center from April 26 to 30, will consists of more than 200 sessions across eight topical conferences and special program tracks, and will explore topics essential to practicing engineers, with a focus on energy and safety developments. More than 2,000 practitioners from around the world are expected to participate.

Schlanger will offer his insights on the current opportunities in the chemical process industries in his talk entitled “Chemical Engineering: Is This the Golden Age?” on Monday morning, April 27. At the conclusion of his lecture, Schlanger will receive the AGILE Award in recognition of his leadership at CEVA Group, a $9 billion logistics supplier to industry worldwide; LyondellBasell, a major player in the plastics, chemicals, and refining industries; Arco Chemical; and at the other companies where he has held leadership positions.

In announcing Schlanger’s selection as this year’s AGILE Award recipient, June Wispelwey, Executive Director of AIChE, recognized Schlanger’s professional achievements in business management, finance and corporate strategy. “He is a remarkable example of a leader who knows how to build and develop a global enterprise and encourage excellence within his organization,” she said.

After beginning his career at Mobil, Schlanger joined ARCO Chemical Company in 1975, where he became chief financial officer in 1989, chief operating officer in 1994, and was appointed President and CEO in 1998. He subsequently served as CEO and Chairman of Resolution Performance Products LLC; Chairman of Covalence Specialty Materials Corp.; Chairman of Resolution Specialty Materials LLC; and later as Chairman of the Supervisory Board at LyondellBasell Industries N.V.

A native of Newark, New Jersey, Schlanger earned a B.S. degree at Rutgers University and an M.S. at the University of Massachusetts, both in chemical engineering. In 2012, he received the Heritage Award from the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers. AIChE previously honored Schlanger with a lifetime achievement award at the organization’s International Year of Chemistry Gala in 2011.
