Adsorption

  1. The adherence of ions or molecules in solution to the surface of solids.
  2. The adherence of a gas, liquid, or dissolved material on the surface of a solid.
  3. The attraction and adhesion of a layer of ions from an aqueous solution to the solid mineral surfaces with which it is in contact. An example is the adsorption of organic materials by activated carbon. Not to be confused with Absorption.
