The FOSSI initiative welcomed 151 scholars in its inaugural year. In 2022, the program celebrates its new class of 144 FOSSI scholars, who are from 25 states and will be attending 34 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) this fall.

Joshua Hood: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Morehouse College

Joshua is from Atlanta, GA, and graduated from Westlake High School. In the fall, he plans to attend Morehouse College and pursue a dual degree in electrical and computer engineering. Joshua is looking forward to furthering his education and gaining the necessary skills to design highly advanced systems to help fulfill the needs of humanity. He is passionate about the endless amount of possibilities provided by technology.

Jaden Johnson: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Norfolk State University

Jaden is from Chesterfield, VA, and graduated from Clover Hill High School. In the fall, he plans to attend Norfolk State University and major in computer science. He has always been fascinated by technology and its real world applications, and he's grateful to be able to continue his studies in STEM with the help of the FOSSI scholarship.  He’s also grateful for his mother, an important role model who instilled in him the determination to be great and the courage to face adversity.

Te’a Mosby: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Hampton University

Te'a is from Shawnee, KS, and attended Aubrey High School in Aubrey, TX. In the fall, she plans to attend Hampton University and major in integrative biology. Throughout high school, she participated in many extracurricular activities, but her academics and community service remained her primary focal points. One of her many goals includes graduating in the top 10% of her class, and she’s excited to embark on a fruitful career in biology.

Jasmine Rodgers: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Hampton University

Jasmine is from Turnersville, NJ, and attended Washington Township High School in Sewell, NJ. In the fall, she plans to attend Hampton University and major in chemistry. She is passionate about pursuing a degree in chemistry because through STEM, she truly believes she can make a difference in the world. In the future, Jasmine sees herself graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and later receiving her PharmD degree. She hopes to have a career as a practicing pharmacist, working for a pharmaceutical company.
