4/5   in the series Student Conference Experiences

Each year, a number of select students are provided travel grants to attend the AIChE Annual Student Conference.

The purpose of this award is to facilitate the participation and leadership development of international student chapter members at the Annual Student Conference and to strengthen AIChE's relationship with these future global leaders. Up to eight travel grants will be awarded to International Student Chapter leaders for the Annual Student Conference.

Tri Nguyen from the National University of Singapore was among the international travel grant winners and participants in AIChE's Annual Student Conference in Atlanta last year. He shares his thoughts about attending the conference:

The trip to the Annual Student Conference started off as a disaster as my plane was delayed for one day, which resulted in me missing the entire first day of the conference. I arrived very late on the first day and was barely able to make it to the student bash. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience getting to know people from all over the place and just having loads of fun. The next day started off with very exciting activities, including the Chem-E-Car competition and the career fair.

The Chem-E-Car competition was a blast as the atmosphere was simply euphoric. It was also extremely exciting being able to witness the utilization of chemical engineering knowledge in order to create something real. The career fair was also an enlightening experience as I got to talk with many distinguished faculty members from all the universities in US. The third day then started with a very informative training session during which the guest speaker told us about how to create a positive image. Most importantly, she inspired us to take charge of our lives and stand up for what we believe in. It was certainly an eye opener. All in all, the experience was certainly fulfilling and memorable.
