In 2023, the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) celebrates its new class of 132 scholarship recipients, who are from 26 states and will be attending 26 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) this fall.

Ambrose Kee: 2023 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University
Ambrose is from Houston, Texas, and currently lives in Cherryville, NC. He graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. In the fall, he will be attending North Carolina A&T State University with plans to major in agricultural business. During his time at NC A&T, he plans to continue pursuing his passion for music, fitness, and environmental science. Ambrose is driven by a sense of purpose and desires to use his knowledge and skills to create a more sustainable future for all people.
Sabreeya Travis: 2023 FOSSI Scholar Attending Delaware State University
Sabreeya is from Philadelphia, PA, and graduated from Central High School. In the fall, she’ll be attending Delaware State University with plans to major in bioengineering and participate in track and field. In high school, she completed the International Baccalaureate Program and participated in multiple extracurriculars, including the African American Student Union and the Black Student Council. In the future, she hopes to make contributions to the field that redefine what it means to be a Black woman in STEM.
Kayron Tucker: 2023 FOSSI Scholar Attending Florida A&M University
Kayron is from Miami, FL, and graduated from Miami Central Senior High School. In the fall, he’ll be attending Florida A&M University with plans to major in civil engineering. Kayron was the only student from his graduating class to receive his associate’s degree as a full-time, dual-enrollment student. He also received other awards and accolades such as becoming an AP Scholar, and receiving the Superintendent’s Diploma of Distinction. In the future, he plans to own an engineering firm, with an initial focus on the development of underserved communities.
Trinity Winningham: 2023 FOSSI Scholar Attending Tuskegee University
Trinity is from Orangeburg, SC, and attended Orangeburg Wilkinson High School. In the fall, she’ll be attending Tuskegee University with plans to major in aerospace engineering. Trinity has shown her leadership in her community and throughout her school by holding office as senior class president, officer of the National Honors Society, and serving as a member of the Helen Sheffield Federated Girls’ Club. She was also named the 2023 valedictorian of her graduating class. In the future, she hopes to be working at Boeing and doing what she loves in aviation. She also wants to ultimately become a pioneer in aerospace and become a mentor for the youth in her hometown.
