EPA P3 Student Competition: Sun, Bottles, and Beeswax

A team of students at Appalachian State University received a P3 honorable mention award for their project, which developed a method to disinfect water for drinking in reusable plastic using solar energy. They also developed a reusable beeswax indicator that helps confirm that sufficient temperatures have been attained for disinfection. Their project is a step towards helping local communities attain clean drinking water, save money, and reduce waste. This project was one of more than 55 others featured at the EPA's annual P3 competition in Washington, D.C. Check out the video in the panel at right to learn more.
