Yusup, S. - Presenter, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS

Energy is a key enabler of economy. Search for environmental friendly and greener fuel is increasing worldwide. Biofuel such as biodiesel, bioethanol, bio-paraffin which covers bio-gasoline, kerosene and green diesel, biogas and bio-hydrogen among others are the emerging biofuels. The talk focusses on biofuel production through hydrodynamic cavitation technology, catalytic biomass conversion and catalytic hydro-processing technologies of oleic acids to green diesel. A new strategy in producing synthetic diesel hydrocarbons from a mono-unsaturated fatty acid model compound such as oleic acid is highlighted. With 12 Principles of Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, the quest for greener, renewable and affordable bio-based fuel will be viable. A holistic approach through understanding the intrinsic nature of the feedstock, processes and products and the impact on human health and environment is the driver towards attaining sustainable agenda.
