AIChE’s New Strategic Plan: Where We Are

AIChE would like to update you on our progress as we move into Phase II of developing the Institute’s new strategic plan.

Data gathering—March & April of 2018

In March, AIChE began the data-gathering process, seeking input from current members, potential members, and other stakeholders. The goal was to collect information such as trends impacting our profession and industry, what members want from a professional society, strengths and weaknesses of AIChE, and our role in government policy. This was accomplished through the following:

  • Strategic plan survey distributed through email, on ChEnected, on AIChE’s social media channels, and through SmartBrief
  • Discussions on AIChE Engage
  • Virtual focus groups conducted through WebEx to gather input from committees, divisions, forums, and technical entities
  • In-person meetings with the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) Board of Directors, the Operating Councils, the Foundation Corporate Council, and Fellows
  • Data collection at AIChE’s booth at the 2018 Spring Meeting and 14th Global Congress on Process Safety in Orlando

Performance analysis

We are now midway through the process of analyzing the data collected in March and April, looking at strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and evaluating AIChE’s place in the industry. Once data analysis is complete, we’ll move into the final phase—developing the strategy.

Timing

After data analysis is complete, the strategy will be drafted with the Strategic Planning Committee and presented for discussion to AIChE’s Board of Directors in July. After the Board’s feedback, the plan will be revised in August and finalized during September.

The plan will be communicated to AIChE membership at the 2018 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh.

I look forward to keeping you updated as we move forward in this process.
