Meet Mohammed Alyanbaawi – Featured YP for June 2015

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

What company/institution do you work for?

Saudi Aramco

Where did you complete/are you completing your chemical engineering education?

I attended the University of Akron and earned a BS in chemical engineering/polymer engineering with a minor in chemistry and math.

How many years have you been a member of AIChE?

Five years.

Describe a recent challenge you managed, notable achievement, or obstacle you overcame at your job or in your work as an AIChE member.

I delivered a paper under the topic of Synthesis and Characterization of Styrene Modified Vinylester Resin-Clay Nanocomposites on Polymer Modifiers and Additives Division (PMAD) competition within U.S. region without having enough time, just only two weeks. Yet, I was able to win the 5th place and received the recognition from the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE). I wish if had more time to do something better, but I was happy to participate and be challenged.

What do you do to meet people in your field?

Most of my colleagues at work are ChemEs. I stay involved in AIChE to keep in touch with the chemical engineers around the globe (i.e., YPC).

There are two types of ChemEs… those who_______ and those who ________.

Those who are Problem Solvers and those who are Problem Seekers.

If your first and last initials stood for something other than your name, what would that be?

Motivation: Follow your dreams, work hard, practice and persevere

Agile: Powerful, quick and active

If your college had offered a class on real-life skills for the aspiring ChE, what would you want them to teach?

I would recommend providing a class of principles and techniques of business networking to have a healthy and balanced networking lifestyle.

 

If you weren’t a ChE what would you most want to be?

Cardiovascular surgeon

What don’t most people know about you?

I am a big fan of traveling; I think it is the best habits I'll ever have in my life. Never stop traveling!

Do you have any advice for current or future young professionals reading ChEnected?

Be an active member of AIChE and get the most advantages out of this incredible society. There are so many opportunities to acquire and obtain through AIChE that will develop your skills and expand your knowledge. AIChE members are from various backgrounds, which will enable you to go further into learning a new industry.
