The session "field enhanced separation" picks up the ongoing trend of using external fields (e.g. electric fields, magnetic fields) to improve the efficiency or selectivity of separation processes. Especially in the area of bio- and nanoseparations, where small particle sizes, small density differences and compressible filter cakes are characteristic, these external fields present promising features to improve separation efficiencies and product purities. The focus of this session is therefore to highlight the latest experimental and theoretical advances in field enhanced separation. It will cover topics ranging from modern mineral separation using magnetic forces to integrated bioseparation combining adsorption with mechanical field enhanced separation.
