Separation of cannabidiol (CBD) from more than 100 other cannabinoids, as well as the other phytochemicals found in the hemp plant was investigated using different liquid chromatography (LC) technologies. The separation was conducted at lab scale and then modeled at commercial scale using process simulation software to build the unit operations and molecules, which thus far have been poorly characterized. By correlating lab data from different plant samples with the simulation outputs, a rigorous, rate-based model was created that will predict separation efficiencies for a wide range of feed compositions.
