Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are degraded as promising polymers to substitute common plastics, the studies about PHAs have become more and more popular. Poly-(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) is one of these attractive and commercially manufactured polyhydroxyalkanoates. (R)-3-hydroxybutyric acid (3-HBA) is a valuable monomer of PHB, which has wide potentials to be applied in industries and medical treatments. We use glucose as a substrate to optimize some fermentation conditions, such as temperature, to increase the concentration of 3-HBA during the batch fermentations with Burkholderia cepacia.
