Understanding transfer of drug resistance among bacterial species in biofilms is essential for combating the phenomenon towards fighting infection. Biological signaling processes occurring in biofilms present stochastic reaction diffusion systems. Computation of average behavior of stochastic systems in which nonlinearity of chemical reactions interact with diffusion involves time consuming sample path evaluations. This talk will discuss recent methods for circumventing the calculation of sample paths for direct evaluation of averages.
