(274b) Development of a Continuous Blending System

Continuous processing equipment for solid dosage manufacture at a pilot scale can be costly and consume more space than is typical for pilot plants. Merck developed its own custom continuous blending system to fit within limited space within its clinical pilot plant. This discussion will walk through the design process, key learnings, challenges and development experiences as the pilot plant team designed a system to fit inside an existing pilot plant space.

In this discussion, the team will use experiences, system design and early data to show how a clinical continuous blending system can be designed to mimic the commercial process while meeting vertical and footprint limitations.
