(581d) On Optimising Particle Breakage for a Downstream Process: An Attainable Region Approach

The use of the Attainable region technique to milling data is presented. We considered optimising material of the desired size class for a mill by changing size class of interest and analysing the optimum test conditions. Using a feed of 1700-850µm, two size classes (850-150µm and 150-75 µm) are selected to evaluate the optimum interstitial filling to be used for the mill. Values of 1.75 and 1 are obtained respectively as optimal. Results show that optimal operating conditions are different for different objective functions. The authors show that the AR may be used to determine optimal conditions (using different objective functions) that may implemented during particle reduction processes. Included also is an extension of AR boundary were optimising using ‘mixing principle’ is employed.
