The new polyimide aerogel synthesizing method was invented via using autoclave without super critical drying method, which largely reduced the economic cost and made the process much easier. The fabricated aerogel showed uniform porous structure and retained the great thermal, mechanical properties and chemical resistance. The polyimide aerogel is thought to be a material that can be widely applied in various industries for different objects, such as catalysts, semiconductor and electric devices. Recently, many kinds of approaches were taken place to improve and enlarge the usage of polyimide aerogel.
The synthesizing method of polyimide aerogel was reformed and the porous thin film was also synthesized by the similar process. The porous film structure called sponge and it is now being tested for using in filtration and separation method. In addition, the ferrogel was synthesized by forming polyimide aerogel and super paramagnetic particles simultaneously which is formed inside of the aerogel structure. This structure shows great potential for appliance in drug delivery which largely increased the empty space of the carrier that the great amount of target particles could be contained. On the other hand, the polyimide aerogel also used in electric devices area by used in fabrication of low dielectric constant composite film, which greatly decreased dielectric constant and solved the problem of the water uptake on the film by its original hydrophobicity. The more approaches on polyimide aerogel are now being studied showing great potential impact on diverse areas.
