(468c) Minimizing Risk at Scale-up through Process Modeling

Scale up of a new chemical processes to larger production often involves changes in equipment and processing time as compared to that of the smaller scale development.  These process changes increases the potential risk to a successful scale up.  Through a systematic approach using modeling of the chemical and process related rates it becomes possible to manage the risk associated with scale up.  This approach utilizes appropriate small scale data to allow the models to make projections to the large scale so as to ensure a seamless scale up of the process.  This systematic approach will be elaborated and demonstrated with numerous case studies.
