In order to model the growth of microalgae in a open-pond reactor, a 1000L system has been built and operated under realistic outdoor conditions. Environmental data (light intensity, temperature, pH) were captured with a datalogger and the growth was measured. A phenomenological mathematical model was built for the open reactor. The comparison of the simulated data to the experimental data shows good agreement.
