The sensitivity of energetic grains depends strongly on the encapsulation effectiveness of the energetic crystals in the polymeric binder phase. The encapsulation of the particles into the binder phase can be optimized if a detailed understanding of the thermo-mechanical history can be achieved. Here three dimensional models of the continuous processing methods will be reviewed and benefits of rigorous mathematical modeling on encapsulation efficiency on one hand and on the safety of the process on the other will be discussed.
