(254c) Coordination, Cooperation, and Data Analysis in the Assessment Process

In the Rose-Hulman ABET assessment processes there is coordination that exists between the engineering programs and the Institute. This coordination is centered primarily in the fact that each engineering program maps specific outcomes to the Institute outcomes. As a result, collection of student artifacts occurs in engineering courses through the use of our Learning Management System (Angel) while the evaluation of the artifacts occurs in an Institute-level process managed by the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment (IRPA) with faculty evaluators drawn from many different departments. Reports on student performance are created by IRPA and then delivered to engineering departments for analysis and improvement decisions. The chemical engineering faculty uses these data along with data from rubrics collected in various chemical engineering courses to assess program outcomes. The engineering program/Institute partnership helps reduce the workload of the departments while still providing rich assessment data.
