Catalysts have historically been manufactured based on a compromise between cost of volume manufacture and the achievable carrier shape. This compromise has resulted in limiting the ability to optimise tubular reactor performance. Technology now exists that breaks this compromise without inhibiting the ability to seamlessly replace existing catalysts. Developments in catalyst carrier manufacturing by Magma Catalysts (Recently acquired by Unicat) have allowed an optimisation and step change in tubular reactor flow and catalyst interaction. The development is multi-faceted and for the first time optimises the interaction between the tube, the carrier and the gas flow.
