Fouling is an ubiquitous and long-standing problem in the process industry. Fouling related issues negatively impact production and operations, reduce energy efficiency, increase costs and greenhouse gas emissions. When heat exchangers are heavily fouled, they need to be taken off-line and cleaned. However, choosing the right method for cleaning (e.g. mechanical, chemical, thermal) is not a simple task. Papers in this session address the problem of fouling in heat exchangers by proposing solutions for fouling mitigation as well as effective cleaning.
