Utilization of Readily Available Computer Programs for Design of Fluid Mixing Equipment

Author:

  1. Roy Penney, Professor Emeritus, University of Arkansas, Department of Chemical Engineering

Abstract:

A design related book was recently published. The reference is Penney, WR “Computer Aided Design of Fluid Mixing Equipment - A Guide and Tool for Practicing Engineers”. That 460 page book consists of 15 Chapters that teach the use of 40 Excel Computer Programs, which are used to solve 40 Example Problems, including scale-up problems. That book also presents the technical background to enable practitioners to use 9 computer design programs which currently exist on CalcEdge (access by searching for CalcEdge → Penney); the programs cover: Compartmented Columns, Gas Absorber, Heat Transfer, Impeller Power and Pumping, Liquid-Liquid Dispersions, Pipeline Mixers, Solids Suspension and Vortex Depth. The computer programs used to solve the Example Problems in the Book can be accessed at

This paper will really be a paper, which I will distribute widely before the meeting, provided I am allowed access to the Conference Attendance List, with email addresses.
