(593b) Model Predictive Control for Continuous Manufacturing , Application for the Production of Metal Organic Framework (MOFs) Using Mechanosynthesis

Authors

Metal organic framework (MOF) have been under development over the past 20 years . Research in MOF material have showed that within the upcoming 30 years , these material can have social and economical benefits by solving real-time problems in in the world in many applications such as gas masks , gas storage, chemical sensors and electronics . However , Today the availability of the MOFs is limited due to the cost of production as there is a gap in the knowledge of cost effectiveness production technology leading to high cost for production and limited availability .Taking the technology from lab scale to commercial scale can be challenging in most of the cases as the commercialisation is still under investigation. On the Lab scale , The MOF materials is produced by solvent-synthesis and ball milling so far . In this study Model predictive control is used as an approach to study the process stability in a continuous mode using the twin screw granulator ,we have chosen a simple structure MOF which is was lately reported to be successful obtaining a stable structure of cobalt nitrate hexahydrate and 4,4 bipyridine into a continuous production mode using twin screw granulator (TSG). Towards quality by design approach (Qbd), Raman spectroscopy from Ocean optics along with the PharmaMV software is used to monitor the process as they are essential elements for the monitoring and controlling the of continuous production.
