Nearly all chemical looping systems being developed or proposed involve substantial flows of solids around the system. Typically, the temperatures in chemical looping systems are too high to use standard mechanical valves for control of the solids. Therefore, nonmechanical means are employed to control the solids flows around the systems. The nonmechanical configuration used to control the solids depends on the type of system used as well as the particle size distribution of the solids.

In this presentation, the different types of chemical looping systems are evaluated with respect to the different nonmechanical means employed.
