The AIME Sustainability Steering Committee organized the second Engineering Solutions for Sustainability: Materials & Resources Symposium (ESS:M&R II) for March 18-19, 2015 in Orlando, FL. The event was a follow-on from the 2009 workshop held in Lausanne, Switzerland.  Sister engineering societies, AIChE and ASCE, were also involved in the planning again.

Chaired by AIME and TMS Past President, Brajendra Mishra, of the Colorado School of Mines, this symposium focused on what materials and resources are integral to meeting basic societal sustainability needs in critical areas of Energy, Transportation, Housing, and Recycling.  There were 65 presentations, 6 plenaries, a poster session, a networking reception; a post-conference publication is planned.  This symposium was one of nearly 70 at TMS2015.  You will find it under "Materials for Energy and Sustainability".  For additional details, email AIME Executive Director, Michele Lawrie-Munro at
