Peppas, N. - Presenter, The University of Texas at Austin
One of the problems in the early stages of translational
research in universities, and in the direct transfer of medical IP
to industry and patients, involves the natural hurdles imposed
by university offi cers on commercialization. We will address
some of these problems, such as (i) dealing with a company
that wants a complete clinical study before they proceed with
discussion/agreement with university partners; (ii) reconciling
industrial needs with academic expectations and wish lists; (iii)
the dilemma of transferring university technology to a company
or starting your own company; and (iv) true and perceived conflicts of interest and how to address them.
