RAPID Highlights from the 2022 AIChE Annual Meeting

RAPID was proud to participate in the 2022 AIChE Annual Meeting this year in Phoenix, AZ. Highlights of the RAPID@Annual events include:

RAPID Reception and Poster Session

Special thanks to all poster presenters who displayed their important work in the area of advanced process technology. This event was open to all AIChE Annual attendees as a way to showcase RAPID member work in the form of posters and provide an opportunity for current and prospective members to network and connect.

RAPID-Sponsored Industrial Decarbonization Roundtables

RAPID welcomed experts in key process industries to discuss the importance of, and opportunities for, industrial decarbonization. Particularly in the Fuels & Chemicals, Wastewater, Food & Beverage, and Pulp & Paper industries. Enabling the decarbonization of these industrial sectors is a key goal for RAPID’s future.

RAPID Roadmapping Sessions

During these engaging roadmapping sessions, RAPID welcomed meeting attendees to discuss and, with the help of expert facilitators, outline key challenges and areas of opportunities for cutting-edge technology applications. Three separate roadmapping sessions were held on topics ranging from Critical Materials, Hydrogen, and Food. RAPID is looking to expand industrial application areas through this roadmapping work.

Process Intensification Technical Sessions

The RAPID technical team chaired a number of thought-provoking technical sessions on the topics of Intensified Reaction and Separation Processes as well as Modeling and Simulation for Process Intensification and Modular Manufacturing as part of the Annual Meeting Topical on Process Intensification.

RAPID Workshop on Advanced Process Technology and Environmental Justice

In this important workshop, attendees began discussing ways in which advanced process technology can contribute to environmental justice issues and the importance of considering environmental justice during all aspects of a project. 

Welcoming RAPID's Newest Member: Tecnológico de Monterrey

Shortly before traveling to Phoenix for the Annual Meeting, RAPID welcomed its newest Affiliate member to the RAPID community: Tecnológico de Monterrey. We were thrilled to welcome Enrique Alfonso Lopez Guajardo with the School of Engineering and Sciences, Tec de Monterrey to the RAPID Reception and Poster session (bottom right image).

2nd Annual ChemE Cube Competition

As part of the 2022 AIChE Student Conference, RAPID hosted the 2nd Annual ChemE Cube Competition. For the seven undergraduate student teams, this event culminated months of work in designing, building, testing, and operating their 1-cubic foot water purification system. In addition to technical criteria, teams created a 1-minute Ad, presented a 20-minute Shark-Tank style Pitch, and provided a Poster.

2023 ChemE Cube Competition Theme Announced

In addition to crowning the winners of the 2022 ChemE Cube competition, the theme for next year's ChemE Cube competition was announced to be Direct Air Capture, addressing the key goal of removing carbon emissions from our atmosphere.

Full competition materials will be released in January with the format of the competition staying relatively the same but the technical challenge changing to address this important technology with immense potential to lower greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.
