Robert Handler

Senior Research Engineer
Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Technological University

Robert Handler is a Senior Research Engineer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Technological University. Dr. Handler’s primary research interests are in sustainable energy and materials, using environmental life cycle assessment methods to quantify and compare the environmental benefits of new products and systems.

He has coauthored over 50 publications, primarily focusing on the environmental impacts of different alternative energy and materials systems. He also regularly teaches concepts of sustainability and life cycle thinking to undergraduates and graduate students in several classes at Michigan Tech. Dr. Handler came to Michigan Tech as a postdoctoral researcher in 2009, studying the environmental impacts of wood-to-ethanol and algae-based biofuel production pathways. Prior to this, he earned his PhD in Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa in 2009.
